The Spiral

New York, NY

Known as “The Spiral,” this 66-story commercial high rise is located in midtown Manhattan in the Hudson Yards area of New York City. Conceived by architect, Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) the Spiral is complex in design and sweeping in scope. A work of art, this structure consists of 66 unique floors with outdoor terraces that spiral around the exterior of the building. The steel first approach used within the core allowed the inner core to proceed 12-14 floors ahead of the concrete shear wall system. This innovative method allowed the building to be constructed at a rapid pace, with a topping out on schedule despite a 6 week mandatory jobsite shutdown due to the pandemic. Covered in glass curtain wall, the supertall stands as one of New York’s most iconic buildings to date.
